I'm starting my own Drupal shop

So, I'm finally able to break the news. I've been planning this since before DrupalCon, but there's been a lot of things needing to get done before I could take the final step and do it.

I am, as of half an hour ago, a registered independent business owner in the kingdom of Denmark. I am not alone in this. I have a very good friend and mentor backing me up and guiding me every step of the way – and for that I'm grateful.

The company name is "Reveal IT". That is perhaps a bit silly, but I hope to help my clients to find out how to tap into the potential of IT, so I don't think it's too far fetched.

I'm going to offer Drupal-related services, primarily consulting and development, but also hosting for my clients. I'm not going into the hosting business for real, but I want to host the solutions I create for my customers myself, if at all possible, to avoid the hassles of shared hosting.

Besides working like crazy at Peytz & Co. (now as a freelancer), I have been working on my presentation for saturday, where I'll be presenting Drupal, filling in for Robert Douglass, and trying to work out design, identity and website for my new company. I've settled on a font (Gill Sans), but I'm struggling with the colours. Perhaps something like this. Or this. Or this, this, this, this, this, this, this or this?
What do you think?

Anyways, I'm going to get a website up as fast as I can make it with more details, but if you are in the eastern part of Denmark and in need of Drupal assistance of any kind, feel free to hit me up via my contact form or call me at +45 22 17 29 98.

Also, I'm going to partner with Acquia (congratulations on launching, by the way), and I look forward to working with them and other partners. I've been beta-testing their product for a while, and I can only say that if you're into Drupal, you should certainly check it out. Highly recommended.

So, that's all for now. If you have any ideas concerning colours, logo or other things, I'd love to hear from you.

    Congratulations! And thanks!

This is great news. I wish you best of luck in your new venture. Thank you for taking over with the Danish Open Source speaking engagement - the help is much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Robert

    Congratulations!

A Drupal freelancer myself I know how exciting this is. Regarding your site: don't be afraid to experiment and to change the colors and even the complete lay-out until you are completely satisfied. I'm looking forward to see the result(s).

Yeah, I only wished I had more time to play around. These days have been insanely busy, and it shows no signs of changing in the near future. But hey, now I get to invoice people for my time :)

Heh, I'll be sharing an office with some friends, so there'll be no underwear-working for me. But I guess that's a good thing ;)

    Congrats

    Congrats!

As far as hosting goes: I'm very satisfied with the virtual private servers at slicehost, but if you want some more support, one of the Bryght offerings may suit you.

    Are you sure?

Are you sure you want to share an office and leave your bunny slippers in the closet?

    Well, there’s two reasons

Well, there's two reasons I'd like to be in a shared space.

    • Social reasons. I like to bounce my ideas off others and have someone to have lunch with. That's not really an option when you live alone and work from home.

Also, I get my own room, and last time I checked, the toilets there were neat and clean :)

    • Motivational reasons. I tend to procrastinate less and be more serious about my work when I have somewhere to go that's "work", instead of just a desk in the corner of my apartment.

Besides, the guys I'm sharing with are like brothers to me, so I think it'll be great :)

    Well, I’m not thrilled

Well, I'm not thrilled about having my hosting "over there". There's all kind of issues, both legal and technical that neither me or my customers wants to have to deal with. Biggest issue for me is the latency. I don't find it amusing when my SSH connection can't keep up with my typing rate.

Its of course a matter of taste, but I like having my own servers to mess with, and I'll probably be to provide a better service that way. I think it's worth it.

    fwiw, I think you should

fwiw, I think you should still be able to work in your underwear. You're all friends, right? ; )

Maybe that's why friends don't come to my house in the morning...

    Well done :)

Good stuff Mikkel - and for what it's worth I concur with your points about working from a "proper" place. I am back at home now, and I'm struggling a bit.

Then again, I don't waste 1.5 hours of my day travelling to and from work so it's a trade off :)

Best of luck with your venture - now get yourself on #drupal-consultants and so on ;)

Well, given that my new office is only five minutes walk, I don't have that particular problem. Only problem is that one of my clients wants me to work at their office. Takes me about 2 hours just to get there, but I guess that's the price of freedom :)

    Well done!

It was great to meet you in Szeged and from what I've seen of you in action, you'll be great as your own boss.

    All the best!

PS - Will your presentation contain as many "f**ks" as Morten's? That's a Danish thing, right?

No, you will probably never hear me utter that word. It's not as much a Danish thing as a rock'n'roll thing, I think :)

Yeah, but invoicing isn't all that fun to do… But rewarding.

I'm thrilled by the good news! Congrats.

From one client to all the future ones: Don't hesitate to contact Mikkel Høgh - he will get the job done nicely. Highly recommendable.

Btw, I like the "I Miss Old Polaroids" from colourlovers...
