Percussive maintenance

I just managed to stumble over Officeslang.com — although I've seen most of them before, there were some funnies I'd like to share:

  • Percussive Maintenance — The fine art of whacking the crap out of an electronic device to get it to work again.
  • Seagull Manager — A manager who flies in, makes a lot of noise, shits over everything and then leaves.
  • Ohnosecond — That minuscule fraction of time during which you realize you've just made a terrible error.
Apart from that, not much else is new. I've started working on (yet another) new design for this site.

Eventful days

We got our new camera yesterday, a Canon PowerShot A620. It's brilliant. I'll post some pictures some time. Shortly after getting the camera and playing with it, me and my colleague, Andreas went for a waterside lunchbreak. Which we came to regret.

We drove down there in a borrowed car, a two months old Toyota Avensis. A really nice car. Parked it on a side road to “Strandvejen”, the road that runs along the coast from Copenhagen to Elsinore. We parked next to a truck from norway. Then we ate a really tasty bagel each, waterside. Then we went back to the car and — you guessed it — the guys in the truck had managed to plow into our nice car. Bummer, but their insurance covers it etc.

I hope

I am often reminded of one of my favorite movies, the Shawshank Redemption. Though it is not a christian movie (actually, it shows the cruelty of some of the people that call themselves christian), it carries a message I like. Hope.

Not fools hope, notably. I love how the main character never ceases to strive to accomplish that which he hopes for. That kind of hope is why the world still stands.

Yesterday was, as you are likely to have realised already, the fifth anniversary of the World Trade Center bombings, and that, above all else, speaks to me of hope. We must dare to hope that no matter how dark and dire the situation looks, we can still change it. No matter how grim the outlook is, we will never succomb. We will not give up. We will not let ourselves be silenced by terrorism.

Awake at dawn

I don't remember when I last was up this early. It's a long time ago, anyways. I've been up since 3:30 this morning, so I'm feeling quite dizzy.

Right now, I'm working on setting up a new file server for the office. I'm going to deploy with [weblink:66|Gentoo] and [weblink:65|SELinux]. It's my first time with SELinux, so this is going to be interesting. I hope it works out.
