So, I was at work today – I did a lot of stuff, most importantly, I set up our new wireless network. Our office is in a rather large house that we try to cover with wireless LAN so everyone is always connected. Up until now, we've had a hodgepodge of access points; two really crappy D-Links, a fairly good ZyXEL and one no-name made in Taiwan gadget that supposedly is a wireless access point too… But recently, I bought a couple of Linksys WRT300v2s, which I finally got around to setting up today, and I must say I'm positively surprised. As I have no computers with Draft N compability, I've only tested it with G, and I daresay it's an improvement over the old APs. The WRT300 is also a router, but for my purposes, I've disabled all the router features, so now they basically work just like access points.

Well, finally home after a long and interesting day. I've been at work the most of the day, but after that I spent the evening with three of my friends from the church. Firstly, we got something nice for dinner – a danish speciality “flæskestegâ€, which is probably best described as “pork neck with rindâ€. After that, we went to rent some movies and buy some icecream (The ice was from ParadIS, which is probably best translated as ParadICE – a fitting name.). Then we went home to watch “Dommerenâ€, which is another fine example of a brilliant danish movie. Great acting, great story. Good handiwork on cameras etc.

[img_assist|nid=55|title=Navision |desc=Yeah, nice job on the UI there. How's this supposed to make me more productive?|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=160]I'm so unfortunate to be using Microsoft Business Solutions Navision in my daily work. It is normally rather good for a Microsoft application, but look at it's latest trick. Yes, the sidebar has decided that it should take up the entire workspace – even more than that, since the resize handle is not available either. I tried to call Microsoft to hear if there were perhaps any bugfix releases or something like that, but they just informed me that I'd have to call “my partnerâ€, meaning an authorised Microsoft partner, which will charge me 200$ just to take my call. How's that for nice service.

Some time ago, I wrote a small piece about TurboGears, with a link to a review I read on O'Reilly. Since then I've studied and played with it a lot, and I can only say it's changed my worldview quite a bit. As those who know me, know, I've tinkered with programming for the web since autumn 2002, where I started with some rather immature PHP-hacking. Since then, I've learned a lot. Studied “real†programming languages, like C, C++, C# etc., and I've gotten a lot better at PHP. However, at some point after converting to linux in 2004, I learned about Python, and that's changed my outlook on programming a lot.

revelation.dk is owned by Mikkel Høgh, and is currently used exclusively as my personal website. There's been a lot of plans for this site. It's had a lot of different designs since I acquired it in january 2005, but currently, it works as my medium of communication, and as testbed for some of the things that I do on the web.

So, it would seem that we're really getting open standards in Denmark. A majority for a new law is forming in our parliament, Folketinget. If it passes, all public authorities are required to start introducing open standards for communication by 2008. You can read more (in danish) here. I'd think that big Bill won't be pleased. I most certainly don't pray and hope that Microsoft won't get their new document standard ratified by ISO. If so, this might all be for naught. But let's see. Europe's goventments hasn't (yet) shown the same subservience towards Microsoft as many others, and most probably, ISO will not be inclined to accept yet another XML-based document format. After all, one should be enough .
